Living a Fairy Tale

Authors note: this piece originated from a stream of consciousness I did recently. It went in a direction I would have never thought of. The main purpose that this piece is speaking to is how when were little we think that things will be just like the princess movies where the fairy god mother always saves the day.

My sun that has always been shining
Just overhead beaming
its careless spotlight radiating down
choosing reminiscing children dancing
dressed in there princess gowns

away from sight we disappear
Our journeys start quickly…
but seems to never end.
Never wanting the sun to go down.

an ancient leaning willow.
Such a stump little fellow he-
with branches that weep,
Due to the fade in memories.
escorting long lost adventures back.

Within Rapunzel's mane:
Like a vortex were lost.
Unable to grasp reality beyond-
The fairy tale we view

How can something so perfect leave me lost.
If all I have ever know is these grounds
May fear have bent my yellow brick road?

Just a flash back of the simple days I'm left.
I assumed I too could live the fairy tale ways;
of little girls running circles in Never Land
everyday was a sunny summers day.

I thought my happy ending would be just the same.
Each complication I must face
My fairy god mother there:
to sew the pieces back together.

I am now not foolish.
For I know these tattered dresses
I am left to sew.

Now I grasp reality.
No story lines of princesses and evil queens
the same déjà vu ending.

Contemplate each decision-
It could be your happily ever after.
No one wants to end up living
with a happily never after.

Art is the Unspoken Language

As you stroll into the emptied  white room with the canvas spread against the walls you approach one like no other. A portrait that reaches out to you, and leaves you speechless. The words were ripped from your mouth, and leaves you exasperated with mumbling staggered fragments in attempt of what you would like to say. The reason no words emerged to you clearly, is because there is no limit to what you can say in art, therefore we should not attempt to limit it with words.

Language can only go so far, but art is the unspoken language of infinite emotions.  We were made without limits; whether you believe our creator was god, or atheistic evolution is the reason for our existence; somewhere along the line we began setting limits for ourselves. An artist expresses passion through his work in a unique point of view. I find it incorrect for students to be told to respond to art with writing. Not because I am a student and am looking to get out of work, but because art can not be expressed through words, and was intended to be that way by the artist himself. When we use the  47, 156 obsolete words of the English language we loose the passion that was put into the piece. Our world has evolved to a place where you must respond to everything with literature: why cant we respond using the unspoken language: art?

Instead of requiring students to describe how they felt when they looked at a piece of art, they should be given a choice between responding with literature, or art based on what they are more comfortable with. By making your own piece of work you can express your feelings more easily, and still show the symbolism and and message you got out of the piece.

"Today is life - the only life you are sure of".

Authors Note: I wrote this poem about the quote about a lecture Mr. Johnson gave us about living in the moment. The quote I used as inspiration for this piece was Today is life - the only life you are sure of". ~Dale Carnegie

Silent wind catches rustling sounds,

Cinnamon scents of autumn around.

Bitters air whipping, tornadoes tangling auburn strands

Slowly down rigid steep hills, steady steps expand.

Harmoniously combining with my thoughts sturdily

skidding to a stop, balancing my feet firmly.

Listen-

Live--

Making the best of the moments of today.

Is there a tomorrow? --

Will winter come?

Animal Farm

This piece symbolizes many things from Animal Farm by George Orwell. As in how power disrupted the lives of the animals. Take the three pigs for example. All started out with pure hearts but the thought of all the power they could withhold put them into a battle against one another. Doing things they never would have imagined before.

The tree represents the growing of their society. The left half of this piece is symbolizing the time before the revolt with the gold colors. Animals dreamed of their freedom, and were still good. As the power became more of the three pigs there intensions changed. It was less about freedom for all, and more about control. Laws were broken, and many of the animals were deceived. The right side of the tree is withered to show the pigs becoming corrupted by power. The bird flying into the night sky is there to show animals becoming evil. A quote by William Pitt- “absolute power corrupts absolutely”, describes both my piece and Animal Farm.

The key

Authors note: This poem is about trust, and how when your trusted with something you must not give in. A key can have many different meanings and in this poem i tried to express them.

Secrets--
Opened, closed.
Revealing pathways
Drawn by its mystery.
Power--
Secured with a lock
Knowledge of where
The key-
The answer-
The Truth-
Shall remain a mystery.
Curiosity-
Controlling
Overpowering
Overshadowing
Trust is held within you,
To fight the temptation to look.

Summer Fever

Authors note: Do you remember those days in spring that were so warm that you truly thought maybe summer is here? Well I do. My inspiration for this poem was one of those day.The kind that made you really truly believe spring is over, but then the next day the rain and storms are back.

Misfit days filled with warm summer air
No more snow to cover the ground,
a layer of green grass is revealed.

Yesterdays sunlit earth--
Replaced by the dark and dreary sky
And misting clouds above my head.

Gentle waves press against my feet
Taking steps across the warm sand;
Ones I could not take the day before.

This back and forth motion between
Forces a false sense of summer,
Because now the ferocious wind is back.

This day will last in my memory
My footprints marked in the sand as proof
Of a flawless summer day.

Catedral Rock

The sounds in the world

Stood silent for now--

No human civilization

To distract from the beauty

Of the mesmerizing place before me.

Here--

Right now--

I feel as though the world is singing

In perfect harmony.

No off pitch noise

To ruin the perfect moment.

Authors note: Today some of the most beautiful places in the world can be ruined by the simple everyday things amongst us. It seems that wherever we go technology is always present. When I was in Arizona this was everything but that. My brother and I climbed a mountain called Cathedral Rock, and the silence let us soak in the beauty of the scene. This poem is about how a simple car horn can spoil a perfect moment.
