Greek Mythology

Author's note: My idea for this piece was off the Greek myth of Oedipus. Oedipus was a man who went through life without listening to anyone else's advice. It is a classic tragedy of a man who thinks he can do it all on his own, but he is blind to life even with his eyes.

The Story of Oedipus
When a life that is lived with a isolated mind
The world seems closed. You are ignorant
incapable of accepting wise words
Even if they are for the better.

Help is offered by those who are superior
Enlightening us, a bounty of knowledge
Giving light in the questions of  life
you are to stubborn to hear.

We must keep away from self conceit.
Keep are arrogant egos from rising;
Be wise, it can not be done alone
Learning is a key component .

The refusal to listen, to accept wise advice
You might as well be living life blinded
Without utilizing your power to see,
Your eyes are meaningless.

Authors note: In Greek mythology they create stories to teach us how a human being should act since they did not have religion. There were a group of three mythical creatures called gorgons who made themselves beautiful to attract others, but actually they were deceiving characters who would turn a person to stone if they were looked in the eye. People can be just the same where they change depending on there place and surroundings.

A Terror of the Sea

Coming into my life was an easy task
with your charming affections,
slightly crooked smile, that masks
the inner true projections

appearing perfectly genuine
motivated with ugly intentions
outside a flawless skeleton,but
provoked with false perceptions

Like a terror of the sea
Ulterior motives were all you had, just
a spellbound figure towards me
left me lost and bound by disgust.

King Midas
If you were given one wish, how would you manage to not take the opportunity to indulge yourself with luxuries? Our world is filled with temptations that test are good will, and our limits. Once tempted by, and fallen into a life of gluttony it prevents and controls your capability to live life.
In Greek mythology, a popular myth was the story of king Midas. He was granted one wish, and he chose the power of having a magical touch that turned everything to gold. Seems like a simple way to live a wealthy life with having riches literally at the tips of your fingers.
In every simple situation there is a more complex situation hidden beneath the surface. Midas came to realize the magnitude this power held. The fact that absolutely everything he touched was turned to gold prevented him from being able to touch his own flesh and blood. Because of a greedy wish, he had the eternal punishment of never being able to hug his own daughter. Although obviously Midas being the selfish and egotistic man he is fell into temptations and touched his daughter, and instantly she formed into a solid gold figure. When you love someone you are able to put your personal desires apart from them, but king Midas’ was seeking for his own desires and it kept him from being able to make connections with others.
For a moment of pleasure he tore himself further from the presence from his daughter. Gluttony is a powerful thing that will prevent us from being able to experience life, thus being one of the seven deadly sins. A life of wealth is never worth the price of family.

Prometheus and Pandora
In the Greek myth of Prometheus and Pandora, Prometheus and his brother were delegated the tasks to create mankind. Prometheus bared many gifts to man including fire, and became the protector. Prometheus was the wisest Titan of them all, and used his intelligence to manipulate Zeus. He stole fire from Zeus for man to have as a symbol of life, and to represent how we are different from animals.Zeus who was the king of all gods, and when he discovered the truth he had Prometheus chained to a rock. He was bound to a boulder where each day an eagle would tear out his liver, only for it to be regenerated by the night. It was an eternal punishment.
Out of all the organs in the human body: why the liver? Out of all the animals in the world: why the majestic eagle? The liver is not the most important organ in the body, so it has to be more symbolic than that. The liver is a symbol of passion, a sign of anger. It can also be used as a symbol of life. Zeus is taking his life over and over again attempting to make him feel regret, because he will never escape his pain. He will eternally suffer in misery, while an eagle tears apart his body. An eagle stand for the power of rising above the earth. Zeus is trying to show how he is more powerful, and will not stand for betrayal wanting to prove his point until Prometheus can ask for forgiveness.
